THE CHALLENGE

A brief three line left aligned paragraph describing the problem space. Here we can talk about the reason the client was looking for research and/or UX, and what their goals were.

OUR SOLUTION

A brief three to four line paragraph describing the approach taken by Lab 5 to address the needs of the client. Here we talk about planned actions we anticipated taking, and why we prescribed them. It’s important to address what the point of each action was, I feel like showing the philosophical approach to the work is key. This is the “why,” before we show the “how,” which will come after the image related to the case study.

Snowball sampling with a priority for current drivers or owners of Chevrolet vehicles. These were extended interviews of 3-5 hours that involved a drive and tour of the participant’s community, a home visit with coffee, a snack or a meal, a conversation about the American Dream, their car or truck, and a conversation about the future and their personal legacy.

There were five topical areas captured consistently, as well as surprising turns that field research can take. As we conducted the interviews, we collected multi-media captures of our observations including an

  • audio and video of the richest and most compelling stories

  • Photos to understand key settings and context to help connect with the reality of lived experiences

  • Notes to uncover not only what was said, but what was unsaid around the primary topics of discovery

Case studies derived from the interviews included a discussion of each of the key element of inquiry, as well as a summary of our observations and key learnings that we surfaced above and beyond the descriptions central to the case study. Upon completion of the field work, we attended an Ethnographer Roundtable to compare experiences across key territories.
